Stitching on the Rio Grande

This blog is dedicated to the use of stitchers along the eastern Rio Grande Valley. We invite you to discuss your projects, ask questions, compare progress, announce new opportunities, and post your photos. Above all this should be a way to communicate and have fun.

ARABIA

Now that I have learned how to put pictures on the blog, I'll probably drive you crazy, but I have decided to put up pictures of things in progress, not wait until the piece is complete.  I encourage you to do the same.

This is a piece called Arabia.  It is by Kathy Rees from Needle Delights Originals and I'm doing it for Judy.  The first time I saw the threads I wasn't impressed, but I wanted to stitch the piece.  The photo above shows the smyrna cross dividing lines.  They look simple, but I couldn't count straight and kept going to Carol so she could find my mistakes.

This picture shows parts 1 & 2 of section A.  These were really fun to stitch.  The colors don't seem to be related, but I just started part 3 and that watercolor starts to tie it all together.  I am starting to really love it.  Hopefully in a few days, I'll have 3 & 4 completed.  Stay tuned.

Congratulations

Judy, that is a really good piece.  I can't imagine how long it took.

Tami - thanks for the facebook page.  It fits the bill of what national suggested chapters do.  It may help newcomers find us.

Quaker Diamonds Sampler

I recently finished this piece after 2 months of work.

Progress on my Chatelaine Piece

I started working on my Chatelaine piece by Martina Weber called "The Medieval Herb Garden Midi" while at the Great Escape. Lots of cross stitch in this piece and so here in my progress so far.

Rainy Days and Sundays are great days to stitch

Today I stitched the 3 blocks given tous yesterday at our September meeting. I did the Coral Stitch around the middle block and it looked great! I have not completed the pull back ground work on my blocks yet as the weave on this linen is so loose that it distorted the piece when I tried with the first block months ago. I will do the pull work once I complete all the stitching in the middle block. Rainy days are great for stitching. Not to good for taking pictures though.

Posting

When I suggested this blog, I was hoping lots of us would post pictures of our projects and comment on the stitching of them. You don't have to wait until a project is finished, you can just put up pictures along the way. Now I know I haven't done it either, but I want to do a better job from now on. Why don't you try to. If you want to see a blog with lots of needlework pictures on it and comments about same, try www.frontrangestitcher.blogspot.com. Right now she is writing about cleaning house, but scroll down to some older posts and see what I mean. She also has lots of links to other blogs. Try it someday when you get tired of stitching.

We all had a great time at the Great Escape. Carol took pictures and so did Tami so watch this space. Also one of the Austin girls took a picture of the "Valley Girls" and promised to e-mail it down so it can be on the blog. I did a lot of work on Callaway but didn't finish it. Joyce finished stitching a project and Viva finished a sweater. Tami decided to take up beading and we all ate well. See you Saturday at Joyce's.
