Stitching on the Rio Grande

This blog is dedicated to the use of stitchers along the eastern Rio Grande Valley. We invite you to discuss your projects, ask questions, compare progress, announce new opportunities, and post your photos. Above all this should be a way to communicate and have fun.

Medievel Herb Garden Progress

I finished the stitching in my Martina Weber Resenberg Piece called Medievel Herb Garden yesterday. I started with my beading. No I am not posting a picture now as I want to let you see the finished product in the near future. My good news is that I finally ordered the Silk and Metal Thread Embroidery Individual Study class from EGA. I am excited to be starting this so will be beading madly to get the other done.

Latest Finishes

Here are 2 pieces that I have finished this past week. The first one is for a special quilt for an 8 year old girl, Grace, who is coping with her younger brother's illness. The brother, who is 3, was born with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, and is facing 2 major surgeries this spring. He received a Love Quilt back in December, and Grace made the comment to the lady delivering thw quilt, that "I don't get a quilt because I'm not sick". So the CSA (Cross Stitch Addicts) group that I'm a member of has decided to make a quilt for Grace. She doesn't qualify for a Love Quilt because she's not sick, but we feel she will benefit by receiving a quilt. The family lives on a farm in NC, so we've decided on patterns of realistic farm animals. Mamma duck and the ducklings is my contribution.

The second picture is a second sampler that I have stitched for Habitat for Humanity. I will add the family's name to it when JoAnne receives them for the next dedication.

No, these are not items on my challenge list. Just a couple of projects I finished recently.

Leisure World Show & Tell 2011

Each year the residents of Leisure World Community in Weslaco invites those who have creative hobbies or avocations to display their creations. Sunday, March 6, was the day chosen this year.  Two of the exhibitors are familiar to the readers of this blog.
Jewett chose to display both her painting and needlework. While Carol just displayed a large number of stitchery projects. She also showed the piece that Jewett, Shirley Marriner, and Carol are teaching in the park. Several of their students were displaying items as well.

Michaela's Challenge

This is Michaela's challenge piece. She sent it to me well before the deadline, but I needed to wait for David's help to get it on the blog. She made it in time, I didn't, so she should be entered in the challenge. Jewett

The Finished Boot

Here is the finished boot. I am pretty proud of myself for finishing this. It is the first time I have done a project that doesn't have every stitch and compensation charted out for you.

Looking for a book

Ladies, Did I happen to lend any of you the following book on finishing: Summer Trusswell's From Stitch to Finish? If so, please let me know as I can't find it here at home. Robin

Update

I have finished one of the challenge pieces and almost finished two more, but I must have been crazy because I'm not saving any painting time. I also took time out to read James Michener's autobiography and was so interested I didn't lay it down once to stitch.

1 project down!!

Finished my Southwest Boot. I will post pics later. Now to finish the other 5.
