Stitching on the Rio Grande

This blog is dedicated to the use of stitchers along the eastern Rio Grande Valley. We invite you to discuss your projects, ask questions, compare progress, announce new opportunities, and post your photos. Above all this should be a way to communicate and have fun.

Kay Stanis piece stiched by Martha Schwartz

BLACKWORK CLASS

I
This is a class I have been taking through the Shining Needle Society.  It is being taught over the computer by Tanja Berlin.  I have finished lesson 2.  She has the best instructions and pictures of stitches I have ever worked with.  She is certainly work the class and I love the whole project.

Trip to the frame shop

Martha, Joyce and myself made a trip to the frame shop. Trecia came along to advise us. Come to May's meeting to see what we framed! Happy Easter to all!

More Finished Items

I have also finished two other pieces since January.  That makes six and I don't think that's too bad.

I thought this was too cute for words - just couldn't resist.  Doesn't show well in the picture, but the fabric is hand dyed orange linen.

This is a piece called Country Flowers.  I did it for Judy.

More from Challenge

I completed and posted the pictures of  Strawberry Shortcake and Kiersten's Christmas stocking.  Now I have two more completed.
This is Two Haunted Houses.
This is the 1st canvas of Through the Garden Gate.  That makes 4 out of 8 challenges completed.  Two more are close.  Wish me luck.

Christmas Cone Ornament

Metal and Silk Embroidery class

I have started my EGA sponsored individual course on Metal and Silk Embroidery. This course will take me two (2), YES two years to complete. I have 9 pieces that I have to design and stitch over the next few years to demonstrate my understanding and application of this program. Each piece will be critiqued by the instructor Kay Stanis. I understand that Kay taught a course here many years ago and Martha has a picture of this piece hanging in her home. I will post this picture later. I am extremely excited about this program of study. My first class is on metal threads and couching. The preparation of the foundation and backing is very interesting. I am selecting my material for my first piece. The backing will be a 45 count white linen of 50% linen and 50% cotton. I am thinking of using tigger cloth for the foundation as the instructor recommends using something heavy for this first piece. I am waiting for her feedback on this decision before proceeding. Martha has provided me with a silk that I can use. At this time I am saving it for my second piece. I have ordered several reference books on Goldwork and design. I have read the one book that we have in our TOT library at Joyce's house. If anyone has a book on Goldwork they would like to lend to me to read I would appreciate it. Also if you have any silk that you think would work for me let me know and I can look at it etc. with you. My first piece is due the middle of June. Does any one on the blog have experience with Goldwork? Thanks

What is going on?

Hello my stitching friends,
Just thought I would comment that you have been very quiet this month. I think I know why!
You are all so busy stitching all those projects you posted, right? If so, then maybe some update photos would be interesting to post. Ok? Let's see what you're up to!
